I love his casually comfortable pose. He looks in command of his situation.

I also note he dresses to the right. ;-)

First delegate from liberated Santo Domingo. I do believe he always knew his worth.

I'm mad that you noticed he dresses to the right. You figure out the scale yet?

That's a great portrait. I've always preferred paintings which show a lived-in body to an idealised form.

I'm not thinking about it but he'd definitely qualify as an underwear model

No need to bring a spare pair of socks, oh no...

I feel like I need to be docked perv points, somehow -- not that I didn't notice the sock drawer, the late Georgian/Regency menswear really plays it up after all... but my inner textile geek just can't seem to stop the eye from drifting up to try to figure out the layering on those fabulous sashes!

Georgian/Regency is my favorite because...uh, well, cravats make my heart pound faster. >.> or not. Those sashes are too beautiful. I'm wondering if they're favors wound about his waist for luck by admiring hands...

It's a wonderful era for male fashion, body-conscious and refined all at once, and cravats are love. The women's clothes of the era just don't click so much with me, though, especially the Empire styles; I'll take the frivolous excess of the Restoration instead, since my body type was actually in style then. ;)

I'm more distracted by the artist's technique because painting the light and shade in fabric folds like those is skilled work. Add in the cravat, marble, hair texture and facial skin tones and it's clear the artist was extremely talented.

Now that you line all that up for me to consider, I see you right. Whoever painted that had talent and technique. I wish I knew who did it. :)

That sash is blue, white, and pink. Almost, but not quite, the colors of the French Republic's flag.
