Despite her having so many awards for her work, I thought she might get nominated for an Emmy this year, for her appearances as the mother of Vincent D'Onofrio's character on "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." Or maybe for her guest spot on "Ugly Betty." She wasn't recognized for either :< but the guest categories for the Emmys (http://television.aol.com/emmys/nominee-winner) this year do include some pretty brilliant performances, so I don't think she was passed over, just probably didn't get enough votes to get in the top five.

Yeah--and not an easy part. D'Onofrio's character has talked about his mother for *years*, to the point where we didn't think we'd ever actually see her. But once it was established that she was dying and it was going to impact on the character and how he was doing his job, it was decided that the role should be filled by someone to better personify it. And that's the role Rita took on and performed brilliantly.

And she was listed in the the Guinness Book of World Records in 1980 for having been the FIRST PERSON to win all those awards. I just love her. JLo has NOTHING on her. Nothing!
