Sometimes I wonder if it's possible for casual racists to suck more.

And look, there's no need to wonder!

Wow. I'm so impressed by the community mod, [livejournal.com profile] elvensorceress, though. Her post is made of win. Goodon [livejournal.com profile] elvensorceress and [livejournal.com profile] theloneapple.

Another thing I like about posts like 'A VERY IMPORTANT Note from the Mods' is that they're very much like roll call for people who might have trouble finding their ass in a bathroom-- well, if the bathroom were racism 101.

As silly bitchery goes, I haven't seen the like done with so little finesse in ages. Golf clap for [livejournal.com profile] killerspork33.

Couldn't even follow Sporkshimselflikeanidiot.

It felt too much like he won a prize in debate club somewhere and decided it put the seal of approval on his argumentative nature and now he was going to prove that white is right and the mods had sinned for daring to say otherwise.

He/she appears to have beef with special treatment and reverse racism. Whatever, if not he/she someone else.

In rl, I would drop them if they managed to sneak past the first screening of frienenemy detectors anyhow.

I saw that post and cheered the mods... and instinctively knew not to risk reading the comments.

Yes, the mods appeared not only to try and do well, but to do well. Interesting how much spite is heaped on people who aren't poc who point out that the way poc are treated in texts may be problematic.

:/

And then the apologists...

So, yes, you were right not to read the comments. You know me and preventive banning, though, I hope.

You know me and preventive banning

As my grandmother, who was wise in so many ways, would frequently say, "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure."

*nods*

Indeed. Some other grandmother said, not mine, "When you see crazy coming, cross the street."

So I ban.

Because in every discussion of racism, it's crucial to remember that the most important thing is the white people who might be in some way inconvenienced, or feel bad. MUST REMEMBER AT ALL TIMES.

Man, I take "killerspork" as a suggestion of the weapon I should wield should I ever meet that one.

Otay!

Man, I take "killerspork" as a suggestion of the weapon I should wield should I ever meet that one.

Only if you have a solid alibi and are assured no witnesses are present. And don't get caught planning the run-in.

Thank you so much for the support. I mean, I expected an explosion, I didn't expect THAT much stupidity. Gosh. But anyway. Thank you.

I think what makes people the angriest is that they have to confront the fact that racism (and other such -isms) are not really the problem of the targeted group. You know? Black people don't usually have to be convinced that they should be treated equally. The problem is with white people. Which is scary and makes people angry.

*sigh* Anyway. I wish I could do more. It seems like such a small thing, but already people just don't understand. :(

Thanks again, hon.

You are welcome! You are so very welcome! I'm glad you took this as support for what you did and tried to do.

are not really the problem of the targeted group.

Hunh. I think you may be correct!

What you and your comod did is a small thing in terms of fannish decency but a huge thing in terms of challenging white assumptions. Look how you had sensible people, or otherwise sensible people, defending the rights of white people to say and think whatever racist thing they like in fic?

Okay, the level of stupid there just made my brain hurt, and I am not even a member of that community! The lengths that SOME WHITE PEOPLE will go to defend even casual racism is astonishing! Damn, I feel like I need a damn drink! And they wonder why we, as Black folks, get so damn tired of "educating" and why we don't want to be the magical Negro.

You know?

Between them and people that pass for white and cosign the racism? I can't be pressed.

I'd like to do some pressing . . .
