Lovely! 2 and 3 are beautiful!

Though, is 11 a practical headdress to wear? Or is it more avant-garde?

How do you define practical? Or avant-garde? Wedding gele can be enormous.

"Practical wear" meaning functional. "Avant-garde" fashion is often elegant, theatrical, and completely impractical to wear from day-to-day life.

The white headdress looks a little off balanced towards the end, so I'm thinking if might tilt over. So that's why I'm curious if it might be for an editorial look rather than pratical wear.

The rest of these gele (new word of the day! lol) are smaller, and might cause less strain on the head and neck.

I love learning about fashion from all over the world. I googled the word, "gele" and found a bunch of "how to" videos on YouTube. They're so beautiful!

It really depends on the gele/headdress. The things that show up at work and weddings are special occasion wear. They tend to be big but the women wear them. Some need the help of pins to keep there gele in place, but, how avant-garde is that when women have been rocking headdresses for hundreds of years?

Avant-garde fashion has many meanings, but at its most basic is something meant to convey artistry and beauty through hard work and time. The white headdress looks very elaborate, so I'm guessing it took awhile to fold. And it would be saved for a special occassion.

I'm not saying that all these gele are avant-garde. A lot of them are what people in the fashion industry would call, "practical, ready-to-wear". Meaning, you can tie it up in five minutes and you're ready for work or a night on the town. ^_^
